Organizing a messy art studio

Q: Got any tips for organizing messy art studios?

A: I'm glad you're asking for organizing help, because I know that by getting organized, your creative juices will flow even more! You'll be opening up your space, relieving stress, and freeing your mind for new and exciting ideas.
First and foremost, only keep supplies in your studio that you regularly use.
Second, determine the main purposes for your art studio. This room shouldn't have more than four purposes. For instance, perhaps one area is for painting, another is for storing art supplies, another is for unfinished projects and the last is for finished projects.
Divide your room up accordingly, so that each corner of the room you're in is only used for the purpose you've defined for that corner. This will help you stay focused and will keep the room well–defined.
In addition, for an artist, I recommend open wall shelves. Don't allow wall space to go unused. The open shelf concept allows you to quickly grab art supplies as you need them. Of course, items should be categorized into plastic see–through containers and/or supply holders to keep similar items consolidated, and so you can find what you need when you need it.
