Start the Conversation Night Kit is a hands-on way to provide adult-lead, middle school, and high school groups of students with resources to discuss mental health concerns, destigmatize talking about mental-health, and create an environment where students can develop emotional competency. These kits along with their contents when used in a healthy environment are an excellent tool and step towards building resilience and reinforcing positive behaviors and decision-making in a controlled environment. When students can safely express feelings and work to better themselves and each other, it helps ensure a more positive, safe school environment. Choose from the Middle School or High School version. Middle School topics include bullying with additional focus on cyber bullying, including teaching participants how to navigate the dangers of the Internet and wireless devices and the practice of pro-social Internet behavior. Students will also have the opportunity to explore fears and worries and learning how to stop, relax, and think before they act by identifying stressful situations and unhealthy coping mechanisms while building beginner and advanced coping strategies, helping to promote discussions about self-confidence, setting and achieving goals, role models, motivation, personal success, and happiness. The High School version introduces similar, but more advanced topics including actions & consequences for teens. These topics will help participants to grasp how to stop, think about options, consider the outcome, and make better choices in real-life situations related to alcohol and drugs, managing anger, peer relations and personal health and responsibility. Themes covered are intended to promote discussions about effective stress management and problem-solving, understanding feelings, forming healthy friendships and a positive self-concept and outlook. These understandings will help with the necessary skills to increase coping skills, self-awareness, internal motivation, honesty, and trust, as they experience their own ability to be resilient.​** Materials included in these kits are age-appropriate materials, but game content and questions should be reviewed prior to the event to ensure it aligns with the values of your student body.
