Size up the room.
When choosing a projector, your first task is to calculate the size of the screen and its distance from the projector, called the throw distance. These two measurements will narrow down your choices considerably and help you to know whether you need a large venue projector, a standard business model or something smaller. Pocket or pico projectors are small and super portable. With far fewer lumens than larger models, they won’t do much in a big room – think of them as a portable TV or monitor.

Brightness.
Brightness is measured in ANSI lumens. The more lumens, the brighter the picture. The amount of lumens you’ll need is determined by the screen size, throw distance and the amount of ambient light in the room. The lighter the room, the more lumens you’ll need for a crisp image. You can use an online projection calculator to help you decide the right number of lumens for your space.

Resolution.
Resolution options from high to medium quality include WXGA (1280 X 800), XGA (1024 x 768) and SVGA (800 x 600). For most presentations, you’ll want to skip the SVGA models for the higher resolution of XGA and WXGA. These models will give you sharp crisp images for audiences who are used to high definition displays.

Helpful features.
When it comes to connections, HDMI is the standard, but many older audio-visual set-ups still use VGA, so you may want a projector that offers both. USB connections make it possible to use a flash drive to present images, presentations, and other content without a computer. And Wi-Fi connectivity enables you to send images to the printer without a physical connection.
